What does “kaccha” mean in Hindi?

Can you un-boil an egg? This clip says almost: «उबला हुआ अंडा वापस कच्चा नहीं हो सकता» (“a boiled egg can’t go back to being raw”), then explains the chemistry that nearly reverses it. The key word is कच्चा (kaccha), “raw, uncooked, unripe.”

But कच्चा does far more than describe an egg. It is half of the great Hindi pair कच्चा / पक्का (raw/ripe, weak/solid, temporary/permanent): a कच्चा घर is a mud house, a पक्का घर is brick; a कच्चा रास्ता is a dirt track; and a person who’s कच्चा is inexperienced or half-baked. One adjective, a whole worldview.
