What does “hands-on” mean in English?
When you do something “hands-on,” you learn by doing it yourself, not just by watching or reading. A hands-on cooking class means you actually cook. A hands-on science lesson means you run the experiment yourself. “Hands-on” works for almost any skill or job. You can also use it for people: a hands-on manager works closely with the team, not just from a distance.
In the clip, the speaker says the reporter “got a hands-on look at the cheese-making process.” That twist — “hands-on look” — is common in news English: “look” usually means you are watching, but “hands-on” tells you she actually touched and worked with the cheese herself.
