What does “깜짝 놀라다” mean in Korean?

놀라다 means “to be surprised” or “to be startled.” Put 깜짝 in front and you add the jolt: the tiny jump your body makes when something pops out at you. Korean has hundreds of these picture-words, and 깜짝 is one of the most useful. On its own, 깜짝이야! is what Koreans blurt when something startles them, like “Oh! What a fright!”

The same word makes anything sudden: a 깜짝 파티 is a surprise party and a 깜짝 선물 a surprise present. The clip is a mock “curse” (저주) aimed at the viewer: 너희 아빠 풀숲에서 나온 개구리 보고 깜짝 놀람, “your dad sees a frog jump out of the bushes and gets a fright.” Note the ending 놀람 rather than 놀라요: -ㅁ is a nominal ending often used for terse captions and online writing.
