A cunning fox tricks a lake’s fish into being carried off one by one, until a clever crab turns the tables, and the clip closes with the lesson: «ಈ ಕಥೆ ನೀತಿ ಏನಂದ್ರೆ» (“the moral of this story is...”). A ನೀತಿ ಕಥೆ (neeti kathe) is a moral fable, from ನೀತಿ (“morality”) plus ಕಥೆ (“story”).
These tales, animals outwitting each other to teach a lesson, are the backbone of Indian children’s storytelling, descended from the ancient Panchatantra. Every neeti kathe ends the same way, with the spelled-out ನೀತಿ (moral). Here: greed and deceit always end in ruin. Old wisdom in a two-minute cartoon.
