What does “bo’i” mean in Hebrew?

Little Emily won’t say goodbye, so everyone coaxes her the same way: בואי, בואי אליי, בואי לאמא — “come, come to me, come to Mom.” That ־י ending isn’t decoration: Hebrew commands change with the listener. To a girl or woman it’s בואי (bo’i); to a boy or man, just בוא (bo). One tiny vowel tells you exactly who’s being called.

The split runs through all Hebrew imperatives: לך / לכי “go,” שב / שבי “sit.” And בוא doubles as “let’s” glue: בואי נלך — “come on, let’s go.” The scene closes with the universal ביי ביי — Hebrew happily borrowed “bye-bye” whole.
