In this comedy bit about phone-snatchers on bikes, friends rib each other with one word on repeat: «థాంక్స్ మామ» (“thanks, maama”). Literally మామ (maama) means “maternal uncle”, but among young Telugu men it’s the everyday “dude, bro, mate.”
It’s classic Indian-language kinship-as-slang: a family title loosened into a casual address for a friend, the way Telugu also uses బావ (bava, “brother-in-law”) the same way. Tone is everything, “ఏంటి మామ?” (“what’s up, dude?”) is pure affection. Don’t take it literally; nobody’s claiming you as an in-law.
