What does “campo semântico” mean?
A communication coach drops a linguistics gem: «toda palavra que você fala ativa um campo semântico» (“every word you say activates a semantic field”). A campo semântico is the cloud of associations a word fires off in the listener’s mind, you never activate a word alone.
Her examples land it: casa and lar both mean “home,” but lar carries a warmth that casa doesn’t; the word pai (“father”) sparks tenderness in one listener and pain in another. Choose words, she argues, by the feelings and pictures they switch on, not just their dictionary meaning. Word choice is emotion management.
