Björn tar en smäll för laget i studion

What does “ta en smäll för laget” mean in Swedish?
Where English says “take one for the team,” Swedish says ta en smäll — smäll means a bang or a blow. That tiny swap makes the sacrifice feel physical, almost like you’re flinching. In the clip, Björn walks into the recording booth first and sings a bit badly on purpose, so no one else feels they have to be perfect. The host calls it good leadership. Björn calls it taking a smäll för laget.
The plain version is ta en för laget, “take one for the team.” Adding smäll — a bang, hit, or slap — makes the picture sharper: you’re not just giving up a little, you’re soaking up a blow so others don’t have to. You’ll hear it in Swedish sports talk and at work, whenever someone steps up for the awkward job. In the clip, the sacrifice is bad singing on purpose. Björn admits it at the end: he sang lite sämre med flit — “a little worse on purpose.” The host plays it straight, calling it ett tecken på bra ledarskap (“a sign of good leadership”), which makes it funnier.
