What does “дедуля” mean in Russian?
Russian has a system of affectionate suffixes that soften any noun into a term of endearment. Дед means “old man” or “grandfather” — already familiar — but add -уля and you get дедуля: “grandpa” in its warmest, most affectionate register. The suffix carries the tone of speaking to a child, or about someone you genuinely adore. It’s the same move that turns мама into мамуля and сын into сынуля.
