Ce fac cu zestrea de la ai mei

What does “zestre” mean in Romanian?
Zestre is the dowry: the household goods a bride traditionally brought into a marriage. It still does everyday work, though — Romanians use it loosely for any inheritance or “starter kit” you bring from home, from furniture to family habits. So when two people argue over whose zestre is more useful, they’re really arguing over whose family left them the better stuff to start life with.
Dictionaries (DEX) give the literal sense — avere care se dă unei fete când se mărită, “property given to a girl when she marries” — alongside a familiar extension meaning the whole of someone’s belongings, with moștenire (“inheritance”) listed as a synonym. The word comes from Latin dextrae, a “solemn promise” (think of a handshake sealing a pledge). In the clip it’s played for laughs: one partner’s inherited zestre is the clutter there’s nowhere to put — no room on the shelves, nothing nice for the TV stand — while each insists their own family’s haul is the folositoare (“useful”) one.
