What does “anisychos” mean in Greek?
A creator’s day-in-the-life vlog opens on a rough night: «Σήμερα η Εύα ήταν ανήσυχη και αυτό σημαίνει πως δεν κοιμήθηκα καλά» (“today Eva was restless, which means I didn’t sleep well”). Ανήσυχος (feminine ανήσυχη) means “restless, uneasy, unsettled,” built from the negative αν- plus ήσυχος (“calm, quiet”), so literally “un-calm.”
It stretches from a fidgety baby to a worried mind: “ανήσυχος ύπνος” (restless sleep), “είμαι ανήσυχος” (“I’m anxious”). Learn the pair and you get two words at once, since ήσυχος (“quiet, peaceful”) is just as common, as in the soothing ησυχία (“quiet, peace”). A neat window into how Greek builds opposites with αν-.
