What does “das reicht mir” mean in German?
In the clip, the driving examiner is stuck behind a slow construction truck for too long. Finally he says “Nee, das reicht mir” — that’s enough for me — and changes the route to get away. Germans use this when a situation has dragged on or pushed their patience. “Ich habe genug” works, but “das reicht mir” sounds far more natural when you’ve simply had it with something.
Spoken line: “Nee, das reicht mir.” — “No, that’s enough for me.” “Reichen” here means something is enough for you, and “mir” makes it personal: enough for me. Examples: - After two hours of waiting: “So, das reicht mir.” (Okay, I’ve had enough.) - “Drei Folgen, das reicht mir für heute.” (Three episodes, that’s enough for me today.) - “Das reicht mir jetzt!” — sharper, like “I’ve really had it now.” Notes: The tone is calm-to-fed-up depending on how you say it.
