Videos that start on their own, even on iPhone and iPad

Open your feed and the first video plays. No frozen first frame, no hunting for a play button before you've even started. On iPhone and in Safari, where videos are the most stubborn about starting by themselves, the player now notices when that first clip gets stuck and quietly gets it going.

Apple has put in place restrictions on playing videos unmuted in an effort to help their users avoid auto-playing ads with sound. But that same restriction makes it so here on Reelang, where you do want to watch unmuted, we had to choose: we decided we'll play videos muted until you tap to unmute.

On iPhones and Safari the moment you arrive to your feed of video, or come back after a while, a clip could sit still until you tapped it. The first seconds decide whether you settle in to watch, so we taught the player to recover on its own instead of waiting for you to notice.
