The whole site in plain, simple English (for ESL learners)

Learning English but the site itself is hard to read? We're building a version of Reelang written in the simplest, most common words we can find. Menus, buttons, tips, everything, all rewritten so you can find your way around even when your English is still shaky. No clever wordplay, no slang, nothing that sends you to the dictionary. If you know basic English, you can use it.

The best way to learn English here is with the whole site in your own language, but there are languages we'll never be able to fully translate. This is the fallback for everyone in between: one plain-English version that almost anyone can follow. We even test it against a real person we have in mind, someone a couple of years into learning, to make sure each line lands on the first read.

"Simple" isn't a guess. We check every word against the same word-frequency data that powers our Smart Subtitles, the part of Reelang that knows which words are rare enough to be worth a little help while you watch. For this version of the site we aim for a median word rank of 70 or below, meaning the typical word we use is among the most common in all of English. When a word ranks too high, we trade it for a plainer one.
