What does '剛出社會' mean in Taiwanese Mandarin?
剛出社會 (gāng chū shèhuì) literally means just exited [school and entered] society. It’s how Mandarin speakers describe a fresh graduate’s first months on a paycheck: still earning low, still trusting, still figuring out which adults are safe and which are not. 出社會 is the milestone moment; 剛 (just) signals the rawness of the transition.
In this clip, a Taiwanese woman walks through how her boyfriend used her to take out loans: « 因為那時候我才剛出社會剛工作 » (because at that time I was just out of school and starting work).
