What does “voy llegando” mean in Spanish?

Voy llegando means “I’m just arriving, just getting in” — ir plus a gerund paints an action as unfolding this very moment. It’s the tense of perfect (or suspicious) timing: voy saliendo (“I’m just heading out”), ya voy terminando (“I’m just wrapping up”). Compared with estoy llegando, the ir version adds motion and just-now-ness — you’re mid-arrival, coat still on.

The sketch turns the pattern into a punchline: a sister sneaking out declares “Yo voy llegando” — then slips and says “voy saliendo,” and her brother pounces: “Hermana, vas llegando, ¿cómo te fue?” The same construction stretches over longer arcs too: vamos aprendiendo (“we’re learning as we go”), la situación va mejorando (“things are gradually improving”).
