What does “بتاع (bitaa3)” mean in Egyptian Arabic?

When this Egyptian creator says السلايم بتاعنا (es-slaaym bitaaʕna), “our slime,” the little word بتاع is doing the job of English “of” or “'s.” It’s the everyday Egyptian Arabic possessive marker: الكتاب بتاعي (el-kitaab bitaaʕi) is “my book.” It shifts for gender and number, بتاع (masc.), بتاعة (bitaaʕit) (fem.), بتوع (betooʕ) (plural).

Here’s why it matters: standard Arabic (MSA) has no بتاع at all and shows possession by simply joining two nouns. So بتاع is one of the clearest fingerprints of Egyptian dialect.
