A Turkish teacher narrates a slow spring walk and points out the season: «ağaçlar çiçek açıyor» (“the trees are blossoming”). The phrase is çiçek açmak, “to blossom”, and literally “to open flowers.”
It’s a lovely quirk of Turkish: where English trees “blossom” with one verb, Turkish trees “open flowers”, çiçek (“flower”) plus açmak (“to open”). The same açmak opens doors, phones, and appetites. Spoken slowly here for learners, in the present-continuous -yor that powers the whole clip (açıyor, ısınıyor, yürüyoruz), it’s springtime Turkish at its gentlest.
