لما أخوك الكبير يضحك عليك عشان الفلوس
A2 Arabic luisteroefening · Egyptisch Arabisch · Geschikt voor beginners
What does “ennaharda” mean in Egyptian Arabic?
In this family sketch a boy schemes for pocket money and kicks off a plan with النهاردة (ennaharda), “today”: «أنا النهاردة عازمك على خروج» (“today I’m treating you to a day out”). Where Modern Standard Arabic uses اليوم (al-yawm), Egyptians almost always say ennaharda. It’s one of the first words that marks a speaker as Egyptian rather than textbook-trained.
It stacks easily into daily talk: ennaharda is-subh (“this morning”), wennaharda billeil (“and tonight”). You’ll catch it in the first ten seconds of nearly any Egyptian vlog, soap, or street interview. Learn it and the calendar of Cairo small talk opens up.
