What’s the difference between “verki” and “skribi” in Esperanto?
Listing her hobbies, this creator says she likes to “verki rakontojn” (compose stories) and mentions she’s translated songs, a “granda projekto” of hers. Esperanto keeps verki — creative, authored composition — separate from the plainer skribi, “to write” in the everyday sense of putting any words on paper, a grocery list included.
The distinction shows up in the vocabulary built on it: verkisto is “an author,” someone who verkas, while nobody calls a person who dashes off a text message a skribisto. It’s a useful pair to keep straight, since English “write” flattens both senses into one verb.
