What is a “neologismo” in Esperanto?

neologismo
Esperanto word-coining risk
a newly coined word — and why one creator’s ASMR attempt, “amoro,” misfires

Wanting to make a video about ASMR, this creator hits a real wall: Esperanto has no established word for it, so she tries a neologismo (a newly coined word) of her own: “Mi elektis kiel nomi ĝin... eble ĝi ankoraŭ ne ekzistas” — “I chose how to name it... maybe it doesn’t exist yet.” Her pick, amoro, backfires — that word already means “lovemaking” in standard Esperanto, so it doesn’t fill a gap, it collides with one.

This is the flip side of Esperanto being a living language rather than a finished, historical one — new concepts (ASMR itself was only named in English around 2010) regularly arrive before Esperanto has an agreed word for them, and individual speakers improvise on camera. Not every improvised coinage is safe, though: a good neologism fills a genuine gap, and amoro wasn’t one, since the word was already doing other work.
