LKW-Fahrer nimmt seine Katze mit auf Tour

What does “Beifahrersitz” mean in German?
Beifahrersitz means the passenger seat — the spot beside the driver. It snaps together from three pieces: bei (alongside) + Fahrer (driver) + Sitz (seat). Each component carries its weight, and once you see the logic, the whole word is immediately parseable. That is German compounding in miniature: rather than borrowing a phrase, the language just stacks the parts together into a single, precise noun.
The structure scales: Fahrersitz is the driver’s own seat, Kindersitz is a child seat, Autositz is any car seat. The prefix bei- (“alongside, with”) is the same one in Beistand (assistance, literally “standing-by”) and beinahe (almost, literally “near-at”). In the clip, a truck driver’s cat claims the Beifahrersitz every morning like a professional co-pilot — the seat is so thoroughly hers that it is packed with snacks and toys for the journey.
